Literature Text

Cathedrals

I am a soft complication
the structure of my flesh
spiraling inward in paper thin turns:
the disappearing center of a shell

I have not been covered
in your thick layer of intervening skin
whose only purpose seems to be
the collection of barbs and misspent missiles

I stand awkward and exposed
unable to bend myself
into any sane social shape
A windblown scarecrow
tired arms ready to bend
I'm not sure how well these three stanzas fit together. I'm putting a lot of pressure on the middle piece to connect two almost diametrically opposed images, and I'm not sure that it makes the turn well. The only legs this poem has to stand on really are " this is the way I feel sometimes" and the excellence of its images. Your turn.

i think the center holds.

but sane... i don't know. what were you telling me about cliche some time ago? i guess this word often gets so overburdened with vague meaning that it doesn't work so well for me.

everything else. an image branded. difficult to avoid.
