God Among the Bodies

I have forgotten
how to move silently between
the edges of the visible
How to tread lightly
along the halls of the unheard
wide eyes glowing
with all the light they can collect

Instead, I stumble through the seasons
unable to distinguish between reflections and dreams
An inelegant shadow crouched in the corner
counting my clothes for missed stitches
and forgotten seams

I remember, but cannot understand
the electricity that used to surge through me
when I was busy tying lightning to the page
inventing an undiscovered language
that no one had taught me
but that everyone could understand

It is gone now

I hear it occasionally in phrases
the whisper of God among the bodies
but can't follow it
cannot chase it down before it disappears
muffled by rubber sneakers
and the rustle of cotton cloth

So I suffice
my dead tongue wagging out of habit
unable to master an agile phrase
forced to lumber through the day
with my pockets full of matchsticks
and my mouth full of marbles
The same poem I always write. The same late I always am!

I like: the action of the piece. I enjoy how your writing moves, although interestingly enough, this poem seems partly to speak to losing that ease of movement.

I like: the clothing images in the second stanza.

I like: "God among the bodies" and "the rustle of cotton cloth" (strange...cotton is one of your other topics!)

I like: "pockets full of matchsticks"

I feel a lot of the piece could be reworked though. I feel that it does not move quite as easily as it could; it's a bit halting. I get caught on lines like, "unable to distinguish between reflections and dreams" and "cannot chase it down before it disappears".

Like :devecho-si", however, I do so love the poem you always write.
